Join us for Introduction to Organic Vegetable Production, a course for people planning to make the leap from vegetable gardening to production for profit and beginning organic vegetable producers who are ready to refine their techniques in order to optimize their production and profit. Penn State Extension is offering this course the second Saturday of the month from April to September in the Allentown / Center Valley, PA area. The objective of this course is to introduce aspiring and new vegetable producers to diverse production strategies and provide a framework for effective farm production planning. We are hosting a Softball Tournament to benefit a local family coping with Leukemia and the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Julia Swanson, wife and mother of 5, was diagonsed with Leukemia in December. Due to her treatment schedule and care for the children, Mike, her husband has not been able to get a job and they are in need of our help. We are looking for monetary donations as well as prizes and items for basket raffle. We also need volunteers. If you would like to volunteer your time or donate something, please contact me. Any help is greatly appreciated. All money will be split between the Swanson Family and LLS.

Duane J Lucien Scholarship Foundation Festival (Festival)

Location: Walnutport Playground

Duane J Lucien Scholarship Foundation to hold annual Community Festival Saturday, May 19 from 12 noon to 8 pm at the Walnutport playground in Walnutport, PA. This day long festival will feature entertainment from the Lehigh Valley & tri-state area, appealing to all ages; including kid’s area, Chinese auction & prize raffle. Music by Levee Drivers, Droppin Trou, Mike & Dylan Peters and many more. There will be juggling by Alex Kolwalcyck, Magic show by George Reiger, performance by the Northern Lehigh cheerleaders, Karate demonstration by Emerald Dragon, the Northern Lehigh Dance Team, a dunk tank with several local “celebrities” and many other events. Miller Keystone Blood Center will also have a blood mobile on site to further support the community. In addition there will be great food & refreshments for sale. Admission to the event is $5.00 and kids under twelve are free. All proceeds benefit the Duane J Lucien Annual Scholarships.
